A Clarkston High School senior will be named DeKalb County youth volunteer of the year.
Jalisia Taylor-Singleton will receive the award Sunday at CEO’s Burrell Ellis’ first Community Heroes Awards ceremony, said a spokeswoman for the CEO.
Taylor-Singleton is a Gates Millennium Scholar and takes classes at Georgia Perimeter College as part of the DeKalb schools’ dual enrollment program. Some of her community service activities include speaking to elementary students about the dangers of drugs, helping start a recycling program at Clarkston High and volunteering at the Clarkston Community Refugee Center, county officials said.
In addition to Taylor-Singleton, Ellis will award five other honors for environmental change, better health, neighborhood empowerment, community service and youth volunteer organization of the year.
The ceremony is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday at the Callanwalde Fine Arts Center, 980 Briarcliff Road, Atlanta. The ceremony, which is part of county government month in DeKalb, is free and open to the public.
Congratulations Jalisia- we are all so proud of you!
